Creating a Cohesive Design

Carrying your invitation design through to your wedding day

When I first began designing wedding invitations, one of my customers mentioned that they wanted to create a “wedding brand”.  As I would when creating business branding items, we nailed down a color palette, perused fonts until we found the perfect ones, and created a logo with the couple’s initials and wedding date.

From there, every design choice we made starting with the save the dates and invitations, all the way to the custom cocktail napkins used the day of the wedding, were a perfect match to their wedding brand. We used their logo on the invitations, and again on their menus and programs. Each paper, ink, and ribbon color we selected was a perfect match to the color palette that we continued to reference. This brand design was a great checkpoint to make sure every detail of the wedding had a cohesive look.

Although taking the time to create a wedding brand is not necessary, with so many inspiration ideas available, it is nice to have a solid foundation to keep you focused on creating a cohesive wedding look! When working on the “day of” wedding items, such as seating charts, signage, table numbers, and place cards, refer back to your invitations. Use the same fonts, colors, and overall theme to continue your “wedding brand” that will leave your guests talking about your gorgeous day!

Carolina + Kyle came to us looking for an elegant winter wedding feel. They knew they wanted a green and gold color scheme, and we went from there! We used their initials in a wreath to create their wedding logo, which was then used again on their menus.

Although we wanted the invitation to be on a clean white card, we decided to play with color and use white ink on green stock for their other items! The green cards on the gold plates really popped, while still having a very formal feel. We used gold wax seals to create a seating chart on a large vintage mirror and added lots of greenery to really tie together the color scheme.
